| Head of IHT Asia has been invited to talk to us about the future of journalism. Key words include: go public, stock price of NYT which hasn't been doing well for the past few year, quality journalism, layoff and low pay, trend of freelancing, etc. Although his talk touched upon the pessimistic or gloomy sides of the industry, the bright part was that readers still buy quality journalism. In this profit driven world of reality, newspapers or other relatively traditional models of journalism are gonna sell their credibility in an innovative way to serve the public interest as well as their shareholders. Have you heard about Ruby Yang, or "The Blood of Yingzhou District"? You will get interested in them if you are curious about key words like 2007 Oscar academy award winner and best documentary film. I went to a film screening and talk by Ruby Yang tonight at HKU, during which I got the chance to ask her two questions, took a picture with her (without her Oscar statue) and was given a postcard with her signature by surprise. I did enjoy the night although the film was not as good as I had expected. to be continued... an article about the film on the Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/22/AR2006062201925.html |
